COURSE DESCRIPTION: Approximately 400,000 Americans have multiple sclerosis (MS) with 200 more people diagnosed each week. It affects women more than men and symptoms often appear between the ages of 20-50. Research clearly demonstrates the benefits of exercise for MS, and because Pilates addresses such a wide range of common symptoms of MS, these clients will likely be coming to you for help, if they have not already. This workshop will give you the confidence and knowledge needed to help these individuals. Day 1 offers practical knowledge that you then apply in Day 2 with actual hands on experience workingwith clients diagnosed with MS.
WHAT YOU WILL LEARN:
- Overview of MS; Symptoms, Anatomy and Treatments
- Why and how Pilates can help your MS clients/patients
- Key Pilates exercises to improve strength including Matwork, Cadillac and Wunda Chair
- How to improve walking via the Pilates Reformer
- Exercises to address spasticity and tone
- How to safely progress an MS client
- Physical, cognitive and emotional health of the MS client
- Medications and how they might affect your client
- How to create an effective Pilates home exercise program
