OLIVIA O'HARE
Pilates Instructor
Olivia O'Hare believes that all people, regardless of age, size, or ability, have the potential to improve their health and fitness level and become the best possible version of themselves. She has found that consistency and patience are keys to getting stronger, leaner, and more flexible. A fully certified Stott Pilates instructor with a background in Polestar Pilates, a Feldenkrais-Pilates blend, Olivia is trained to teach all levels and all equipment, including reformer, cadillac, chair, and barrels. She completed her certification at John Garey Pilates in Long Beach and has six years of apprentice time with Andrea Beckham, a fully certified Polestar instructor. She is also ACE and ISSA certified as a personal trainer and has been lifting weights since she was twelve years old. Olivia received her BFA and MA in theatre directing from Texas State University and completed coursework for the PhD at University of Texas-Austin in Performance as Public Practice specializing in movement theory and analysis. The focus of her research while at UT was disability dance, contact improvisation, and community-based performance. Before moving to LA, Olivia taught acting, Pilates, and dance at the university level; directed and acted in plays around Austin and San Marcos, was a member of the mixed-ability theatre company Actual Lives, and performed with the Improvisational Movement Project, an improvisational dance collective. She currently enjoys expanding her knowledge of movement and the body, and practicing Irish step dancing. When she’s not in the studio, you can find her walking around Silverlake with her husband, Kelly, and her dog, Mr. Snoops. Testimonial by Susan Streitfeld: I was extremely fortunate to work with the wonderfully encouraging and creatively challenging Olivia Whitmer during a rehab from a broken leg. Her extensive in-depth knowledge of the body, (and her commitment to continually acquire more), her attention to the specific person standing in front of her, (and not to a general idea of the body), her desire to lead you to a place where you are not only stronger, but more balanced and deeply connected to your breath, makes her unique as a trainer. In a perfect world I would train with Olivia every day of the week! What a joyful way that would be to start or end the day!
